Graham Hunter
Advisory Board Member

Graham is a consultant in catchment and environmental management. His expertise in sustainability has been developed over thirty years in the public and private sectors. This has included work in England, France and the USA. In Australia he has held senior positions in the Victorian public sector including research director for the Victorian Parliament, policy director for the Environment Protection Authority, senior adviser on natural resources management in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and program director in other government agencies responsible for the management of natural resources and the environment.

He has also been Chief Executive Officer of the non-government organisation, Greening Australia Victoria Inc. He holds masters degrees in Engineering Science from the University of Melbourne and in Environmental Management from the University of Leeds, England.

Ken Fung
Advisory Board Member

Ken is a change management consultant who has over 30 years experience in developing and implementing corporate and natural resource sustainability and environmental management strategies. The present focus of Ken's work is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which includes sustainability policy and strategy development, sustainability management and reporting. Ken has also spent some time in his career developing a Research Institute which provides environmental and social performance data to organizations for Socially Responsible Investment (SRI).

He has an MBA and was also formerly a Principal Consultant in natural resource management at URS Australia and the Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation (SMEC) Australia, where he worked mainly in the field of water and catchment management.  Prior to his career in environmental and CSR consulting, Ken was involved in agricultural research spending the first part of his career in pesticide research and soil and plant nutrition diagnostic work, culminating in his appointment as Assistant Director in Consumer Protection and Public Health at the State Chemistry Laboratory in Victoria, Australia.

He later worked in the policy area at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs before being appointed as Manager of the State Water Laboratory, Victoria, Australia. The Laboratory was later privatized as Water EcoScience Pty Ltd and Ken was appointed General Manager and later as General Manager Australian Water Technologies, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.  Ken has a passion for most things French.

He recently made an investment to pursue his love of France. A cottage in the SE of France near the Spanish border is available for those who share similar passion and are willing to travel to that part of the world to explore.

Melissa Clarkson
Advisory Board Member

Melissa has over 10 years experience working across the business, community and government sectors. She is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility team at Transurban Group. She also has over five years experience working in the area of corporate community involvement at The Australian Charities Fund and The Smith Family. Prior to this, Melissa worked as a strategy consultant for Accenture and as an economic analyst for the Reserve Bank of Australia. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) and a Bachelor of Science from The Australian National University.

Prof. John Cole
Advisory Board Member

Professor John Cole is the director of University of Southern Queensland’s innovative Australian Centre for Sustainable Business and Development.

Professor Cole is well known nationally and overseas for his leadership and advice on sustainable development and is much sought after as a speaker on the issues of sustainability as they relate to government, business and communities. 

In December 2007 he facilitated a national forum for the Garnaut Climate Change Review on the technology development implications of global warming. During 2008-09 he was the executive liaison officer for the Queensland Premier’s Council on Climate Change. Professor Cole was also principal drafting author of the Council’s first working paper: 'Achieving early and affordable greenhouse gas reductions in Queensland: strategies for voluntary household and lifestyle changes'.

For 10 years between 1998 and 2008 Professor Cole served as a founding Executive Director of Queensland’s Environmental Protection Agency promoting sustainability innovation in business, industry and government. During that time he headed several divisions including Sustainable Industries (1998-2008) EPA Marketing (2006-08) Multicultural Affairs Queensland (2007) and Sustainability Innovation (2008), and administered more than $150 million in innovation and technology partnerships with Queensland industry and communities.

Professor Cole has been a Queensland representative on the Standing Committee of the Environment Protection and Heritage Council of Australia and New Zealand and the standing committee of the National Environment Protection Council. In 2003 he co-chaired the Queensland Government’s Ethanol Industry Development Committee. He has served on State Government inter-departmental committees responsible for Sugar Industry Reform, Rural Adjustment, Queensland’s Greenhouse Response Strategy, Clean Coal Technology, Sustainable Housing, SEQ Rural Futures and the Energy Policy.

Geoff Mabbett
Advisory Board Member

Geoff Mabbett has over 10 years experience as a Chief Executive and a further 10 years in senior management positions at a time of transformation in the utilities and environmental services industries.  He has held roles as Chief Executive of Sustainability Victoria (2006-2008), Metrowater in Auckland (2002-2005) and Western Water in Victoria (1998-2002).  In 2008, Geoff embarked on a journey to develop a portfolio career comprising Board Directorships, Advisory and Consulting work and pro bono involvement with the Not for Profit sector.  His Board experience includes:

  • Chairman Victorian Association of Forest Industries Sustainability Council (2008 onwards)
  • Director Yarra Energy Foundation (2010 onwards)
  • Woolworths Sustainability Advisory Committee (2007)
  • Fawkner Crematorium and Memorial Park Audit and Risk Committee (2008 – 2010)
  • Keilor Cemetery Audit and Risk Committee (2009 – 2010)

Geoff is currently the Victorian Director of LSI Consulting a Trans Tasman business performance improvement consultancy with over 20 years experience in creating and implementing opportunities for business improvements within a wide range of industry segments.  He is also Director and Owner of Lime Consulting, specialising in executive coaching, organisational alignment and strategy development.  Geoff acts as an Advisor to Western Chances a not for profit organisation providing opportunities for disadvantaged students in the West to realise their ambitions.
