Alan co-founded the Sydney office with Ro Coroneos in early 2008 and leads the Net Balance Sustainability Advisory practice offering sustainability strategy, governance and reporting services.

He has over fifteen years experience in the financial services and advisory services sectors with core experience in performance measurement and management reporting, operational risk frameworks and strategic improvement initiatives. Prior to Net Balance, he worked in KPMG’s Risk Advisory Services practice for seven years and prior to that with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Westpac Banking Corporation. Alan has considerable international consulting experience, particularly in the European market.

Throughout his career, Alan’s clients have included Westpac Banking Corporation, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Woolworths Limited, Brambles Limited, Vodafone Australia, Microsoft Australia, Singtel Optus, National Bank of Greece, Eurobank SA, OTE Hellas, Barclays, McDonald’s Australia, Bayer Australia/New Zealand, HSBC Bank and AMP Financial Services. Since joining Net Balance he has assisted clients in developing their sustainability and climate change risk management strategies and is coaching executives and business managers of organisations that are embarking on sustainability programs. Alan combines his practical business/finance experience towards our client’s sustainability needs and has worked on strategic development and reviews, report redesign, sustainability data management and KPIs, greenhouse gas inventories and strategies as well as report assurance and verification.  He is passionate about integrating sustainability practices into existing performance and risk management frameworks as well as measuring the financial and non-financial value of sustainability initiatives and strategies.

Alan holds two Bachelors degrees from the University of Technology, Sydney. His first degree in Business (Finance/Tax Law) and recently his second in Science (Environmental Biology/Horticulture). He is also trained in ISO14064 (Greenhouse Gas Inventory Development and Verification), ISO26000 (Guidance on Social Responsibility) as well as SROI (Social Return on Investment) and is an Accredited NABERS Assessor. Supplementing his sustainability skills, he also has practical experience in project management, process redesign, strategy development, performance and management reporting, Microsoft automated solutions, operational and financial risk management, and financial investment/strategic analysis.

Proud father of three kids, Alan is never short of a dull moment and loves spending time with his family.  “After a busy day at the office I love seeing the kids eyes light up as I walk through the door and they rush over to give me a hug.”  Alan takes care of the kids on the weekend when his wife works as a cosmetic injector.  His other interests include gardening, home renovations, photography and travel.
