Ben holds degrees in Environmental Engineering and Science (Meteorology) from The University of Melbourne and a Graduate Certificate in Engineering (Renewable Energy) from RMIT, Ben has over 6 years experience in the environmental impact assessment and sustainability sectors.

Initially employed as a graduate engineer in the GHD Air and Noise team, Ben has been involved with numerous air quality and noise impact assessments on scales ranging from small local government infrastructure installations to large international industrial facilities. By virtue of this involvement, Ben is experienced in the development and application of fit for purpose impact assessment methodologies across a broad spectrum of legislative environments and utilising a range of tools, including prognostic and diagnostic meteorological modelling, Gaussian plume/puff dispersion modelling and environmental risk assessment.

In parallel, Ben has developed capabilities in the Greenhouse Gas and Energy sector. These capabilities include the development of procedures and tools for the creation of greenhouse gas and energy inventories for a variety of industries world-wide. With consideration to the relevant legislation and publications Ben has designed tools for the processing and presentation of activity data in formats appropriate for regulatory reporting requirements. Ben has also contributed to the development of landfill, wastewater and land management emissions calculation models.

Drawing upon his experience across these sectors, Ben has been involved with the coordination of multidisciplinary environmental impact assessments and EPA works approval applications for a range of industrial and infrastructure projects.

Born in Melbourne, Ben has travelled extensively and is an avid cyclist and traceur. When not in the office, Ben can often be found mountain bike riding, training, endeavouring to learn guitar or unwinding at his family’s farm in central Victoria. A passion for issues of sustainability has been the key drive behind Ben’s education and career choices to date. He brings this passion with him to Net Balance.
