Tim recently completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Process Engineering as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Chemistry) from The University of Melbourne, where he enjoyed the detailed technical and problem solving aspects of these courses, but always sought to place them within a broader perspective than any single occupational industry. During his course he gained experience in a research laboratory, assisting in a PhD thesis assessing catalysts for the degradation of soluble organic pollutants. As a final-year research project he assessed younger students on their attitudes, knowledge and misconceptions regarding issues related to sustainability in engineering. In doing so he developed his own general knowledge in the area and enjoyed the challenge of applying the fundamentals he had learnt in small-scale systems to some more open-ended problems facing the world as a whole today. He also experienced some of the common issues with educating others correctly on these problems in the face of existing misconception or resistance. In his spare time he enjoy keeping fit and happy, is a keen movie and trivia buff, reads quite regularly and has developed a strong interest in bonsai.
