Carbon price event [MEL] Wed 22 February 2012

Presentation event: Are you ready for the carbon price (Melbourne)

22 February 2012
8:00am - 9:15am

The carbon pricing mechanism commences from 1 July 2012. The impact of a carbon price will not only be felt by liable entities (companies who have a liability under the mechanism), but there will also be an impact on parties who receive goods or services from these liable entities.

Now is the time to examine your contractual arrangements to identify who will bear the costs of the carbon price and whether you have the ability to pass on, or avoid, any of these costs.

For liable entities, it is also time to examine the differences in registration and reporting obligations between the existing National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme, and the amendments made to reporting requirements, as a consequence of the Clean Energy legislation.

This seminar series will provide practical guidance on approaching these and other issues to ensure you are fully prepared for the 1 July start date of the carbon price. Following formal presentations by Norton Rose Australia and Net Balance, attendees will have the opportunity to ask detailed questions to help better understand their liability and reporting obligations under the Clean Energy package.

Talk over Tea with Charlie Arnot (Sydney)

24 February 2012
2:00pm - 3:30pm

Building Consumer Trust in a Sustainable Food System

We have to increase food production by 50% by 2030, by 100% by 2050 and by the end of this century we have to grow more food than we've produced in the previous 10,000 years combined to meet the exploding global demand. While the developing world struggles to meet basic needs, the developed world struggles with questions about the ethics of todays's food production system. According to the World Wildlife Fund, agriculture has the greatest environmental impact of any human activity and we have to double food production on the same footprint to preserve our ecosystem.

Is sustainable intensification an oxymoron, or the key to saving our planet? Charlie Arnot of the Center for Food Integrity (CFI) will discuss the challenges of building trust in today's food system and the work being done by CFI to create trust-building models that can be used by stakeholders around the globe. Arnot speaks to groups across the world on issues related to trust and food more than 50 times a year.
