Rod recently joined Net Balance from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu where he was a Director in both the Economics and Corporate Responsibility practices.
He was a founding member of Deloitte’s Climate Change and Sustainability Executive and worked with many of Deloitte’s ASX100 and government clients on climate change and sustainability strategies.
His particular focus is on assisting organisations develop robust strategic plans under the uncertainties that exist for both government and commercial decision-makers around carbon pricing, climate change adaptation, energy security, and sustainable development.
Rod has developed creative strategies for difficult public policy and business issues, designed knowledge and information management strategies, and led effective and sustainable organisational change.
Prior to joining Deloitte Rod had a career in the NSW and Victorian public sectors. His last public sector role was as a Program Manager at the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Rod has worked on reviews, audits and strategic planning for environmental policy, climate change adaptation, operating in a carbon–constrained economy and sustainability for:
- major Deloitte clients in the resources, manufacturing and banking sectors
- peak industry bodies
- Federal, State and Territory government departments (including work on climate change public policy for the Department of Climate Change, the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Northern Territory Department of the Chief Minister)
- Local governments and statutory authorities including the City of Melbourne, the City of Yarra, Mildura Rural City Council, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, and City West Water.
He's also presented at conferences and run training workshops on sustainability and the impacts of climate change and emissions trading on business and investment strategy for the Australian Industry Group, the Victorian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association. Rod’s work has had a particular focus on:
- managing carbon cost pass-through risk from suppliers
- due diligence for mergers and acquisitions in emissions-intensive industries
- business cases for ASX100 companies for investment in low-emissions technologies
- economic impact studies including quantifying the potential impact of widespread adoption of electric vehicles and city-wide building retrofits.
